Scrubbers (Hydraulic Centrifugal Disintegrators)

 

In our opinion, the need to put into operation deposits with a high content of difficult-to-disperse clay impurities will increase. Washing of this type of raw material is a laborious operation and is usually carried out on separate machines, which are usually divided into two groups.

The first group consists of machines in which the washed material is mechanically mixed in an aqueous medium by working organs; in the devices of the second group, washing is based on special methods of exposure (ultrasonic and sound vibrations, electrohydraulic effects, electrophoresis, etc.).

The main disadvantages of all known scrubbers of the first group are low specific productivity per unit volume and low efficiency in hard-to-mine ores.

The machines of the second group, which use special methods of exposure, are under investigation and are currently not widely used.

It consists of (Fig. 1) a cylindrical body equipped with two loading nozzles installed tangentially and two discharge nozzles installed coaxially to the body. In addition, blades in the form of plates are fixed on the inner cylindrical surface of the housing, which are arranged in rows along the housing between the outlet ports of the discharge pipes.
The disintegrator works as follows: clay material in the form of a hydraulic mixture under pressure enters the housing simultaneously through two loading nozzles. Due to the tangential orientation of the nozzles, the flows acquire a rotational motion towards each other.
As the streams move, the clods of clay repeatedly meet with the blades. On the front and opposite sides of the blades, there are zones of high and low pressure, passing through which the lumps quickly become soaked with water, and when interacting with each other and hitting the surface of the housing, they collapse.
In the middle part of the body, both streams, swirled in opposite directions, meet, which is accompanied by intense abrasion with the release of mineral grains. The hydraulic mixture continuously entering the housing displaces the finely dispersed clay and the mineral grains released from it move to a smaller radius and then out through the discharge pipes.
The graph (Fig. 2) shows the test results of the GCD-400, installed at the factory in a production line operating parallel to the main one. The top product of butara with a grain size of -30+5 mm, which passed the stage of disintegration in a standard scrubber, was processed. The ratio of the analyzed size classes -30+10 and -10+5 mm in this product was 1:2.

Visually, the product was a mixture of clay pellets with gravel, in which the content of clay pellets with a grain size of -30+10 mm ranged from 45 to 70%, and pellets of -10+5 mm ranged from 18 to 25%. The content of clay minerals in the pellets was 95-98%.

Later, the GCD-1200 was tested directly at the test site. The effectiveness of its work was assessed indirectly, mainly by the amount of processed raw materials. So, in comparison with three other hydraulic installations, the amount of processed ore at the hydraulic installation with GCD increased 2.5 times during the season.

Currently, our company has developed several standard sizes of GCD with a capacity from 5 to 300 m3/h, as can be seen from the table.

It should be noted that disintegrators of this type can only work in conjunction with a dredger. Their paired characteristics are calculated for a specific type of raw material.

The simplicity of the design, compactness and low weight of the disintegrators, the absence of moving parts, low cost combined with the highest efficiency allows them to be recommended for operation with virtually no risk, with a high probability of immediate impact. They can be integrated into any process line where a standard ground (sand) pump is used.
